Things they don’t elaborate on during your prenatal visits or birth classes: going to the bathroom AFTER baby arrives. Let’s face it, talking about going isn’t the most ideal topic of conversation, but that first poop after baby isn’t easy. It can actual be painful. How can we make the going– good? Here are 5 postpartum bathroom hacks to make the going– good!
The Squatty Potty
If you have not purchased one smoothing the going, this is a great device that will aide in your postpartum bowel movements and beyond. The squatty potty is a device that helps to transform your pelvic floor into a pooping machine. Down the road when you have all your little critters banging at the bathroom door as you are trying to hurry your poo, it will again be a purchase that you are glad you made.
Depends
There are big bulky depends (in picture above) and more discrete varieties of adult diapers. Are they worth it? YES! This was a grand discovery during the postpartum period of baby #3. It saves you from having to attach huge bulky pads to underwear, saves you from destroying undies, and reduces your laundry load just a smidgen. The Depends Silhouette can be a fantastic addition to any baby shower gift. The party may giggle when your gift is opened, but she will be singing your praises as she gets to wear the comfy and discrete depends and doesn’t have to waddle around the house with over sized pads between her legs.
Peri Bottle “Warmer”
Using the Peri bottle NOT warmed will be quite the wake up call through all those sleepless nights, but it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes it takes time to warm up your faucet water, but if you leave your bottle set on the bathroom went (during the winter months), it can be warmed in your absence.
ClaraDerm Spray
Speaking of perineums… How can you best prep yours for baby? What also works great after baby arrives? Young Living’s ClaraDerm Spray. I cannot tout this fabulous, expensive, little bottle of spray. It is said (anecdotally) to help prep your body to reduce tearing, aide with hemorrhoids, and soothe post baby nether regions. Take my word for it, after birthing two babes without, I won’t birth any more without using ClaraDerm Spray before and after baby.
Wet Wipes
Baby wipes are not just for babies. Whether you find a flushable brand you love or steal away with some of the baby’s stash, these can help you to feel fresh and are worth having around post baby to care for all your tender areas.
With each child we grow and learn things that we wish we would’ve come across earlier. What are some of your postpartum bathroom hacks?
